Last week, my mother and I drove up to Seattle to visit my brother and his family. We wanted to spent time with my nephew (9) and niece (7).
One day, my mother and I decided to watch my niece during her horse riding lesson. She rode for 1 hour on the horse – walking in a circle. the same circle, the same direction for an entire hour. Around and around and around and around. It was surprising to watch how focused my niece was for the entire hour. She listened carefully to the instructor, followed every instruction perfectly and never lost focus. It was amazing to watch. I, on the other hand, got distracted by everything – other horses, the instructor’s shoes, the color of the fence, etc. It made me wonder: when was the last time I ever did something for a whole hour without being interrupted or getting distracted? Perhaps there’s a lesson in the lesson. Perhaps I need to be more like my niece in this case.
Z-Tip: When performing an important task, focus – for a specified period of time- without distraction. You just might accomplish something and I bet you’ll feel good about it in the end. Now that’s ZAMitude!
