Ok, so I have a confession. I have a problem. I get really annoyed when I see trash on the ground – especially in places like airports where there are hundreds of garbage cans scattered throughout the terminal. What makes it ok for someone to put their garbage on the floor or chair is beyond me. I doubt their mother’s taught them this. Do they do this in their own homes? I just don’t get it. The other day, I was in an airport trying to find a place to sit. Every other seat had either garbage on it or under it. I chose a seat that had both. Put my bags down, picked up the garbage and threw it into the garbage can 6 feet away. I HOPE someone was watching and I HOPE they, too, would get the message. Wouldn’t that be nice? Imagine a world where people actually used garbage cans instead of the floor.
A couple of months ago, I was in another airport, sitting in a chair and minding my own business. Next to me was a mom with her 2 kids. Right before she was about to leave she put her empty cup on the seat next to me. (She obviously didn’t know this was a bad idea, did she?) As she was walking away, I picked up the cup and gave it to one of her daughters and said “Here honey, your mommy forgot something.” The mother stopped, turned back and gave me the dirtiest look. I simply smiled and waved. Did I teach her a lesson? Probably not. Did I feel good about it? You bet.
Last week I had an appoinment with a potential client. As I drove into the driveway I noticed a small bundle of papers on the ground. After I parked, I went back to the bundle, picked them up and brought them to the trash – thinking nothing of it. As I was led into the office of the potential client, whom I had never met, she exclaims with delight “I like you already and I’ll tell you why…” She then proceeded to tell me that those papers had been there for quite a while and no one had taken the time to pick them up – including herself. When she saw me pick them up she knew I was the right person for the job. Hmmmmm, my obsession paid off?!?!?! Interesting.
Z-Tip: Put garbage in the garbage can – you never know whose watching!!!!!!!!!!!!!
